The Leland Best Council for the Arts Presents…ars lyrica MUSIC OF THE BAROQUE
Sunday, May 18th 5:00 p.m.
The Leland Best Concert Series is proud to present the sounds of Ars Lyrica, a musical group from Houston which utilizes period instruments to create world-class Baroque musical performances. In music, the term “Baroque” applies to the final period of dominance of imitative counterpoint around the 17th century, where different voices and instruments echo each other at different pitches, sometimes inverting the echo, or reversing thematic material. J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel are often considered its culminating figures.
Let the exquisite sound of period instruments and artful musical duels transport you to a time when music was both exceptional and personal. The presentation will be held in the Sanctuary and is free of charge.[ view flyer ]

Mission trip to Lakeview Methodist Camp
For the past six years, the Cornerstones Sunday School class has sponsored a Mission trip to Lakeview Methodist Camp before the busy camp season begins. The staff at Lakeview does not have time to complete all the smaller jobs necessary for the summer camp programs, and we are happy to help them out! Possible projects include moving and reworking benches at Vespers Point #1, indoor painting in the Wesley cabins, and finishing the exterior paining at Morton’s Lodge that was begun last spring. Housing is available if you would like to stay on site, however food will not be provided by Lakeview unless another group happens to be staying there at the same time. If you would like to attend or have questions, contact Chrissie Joyner at (409)866-1605. You do not have to be a member of Cornerstones to attend—everyone is welcome!
